As
a self made business woman, Delia is the
creator and owner of a language school in
which she brings her 13 years experience
to the business as a trainer and training
manager for large corporations in Dallas.
Her dedication and commitment to improving
quality of life and enhancing neighborhoods
in District 1 and Oak Cliff has led her
to being named as a freelance writer for
The Dallas Morning News for 2 years.
Education
has always been at the forefront of Delia's
family. The importance of education was
instilled in her at an early age and she
has made it an integral part of her personal
goals. She instilled this importance in
her 2 children, as well. Her son, Eric,
is a graduate of Jesuit College Preparatory
School in Dallas and Vanderbilt University
in Nashville, Tennessee. Delia's daughter,
Laura, graduated from Bishop Lynch High
School and is a college freshman at George
Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Delia's
commitment to education and its value in
improving our quality of life is reflected
further through her volunteer efforts with
Texas Can! Academies. She serves as the
Chairwoman of this educational institution's
Board of Directors.
Delia
Jasso already has a proven track record
of success in serving citizens of District
1, Oak Cliff and the City of Dallas. She
has served as Dr. Elba Garcia's appointee
to the City of Dallas Park and Recreation
Board for the past 7 years. Delia was recognized
for her leadership by her colleagues supporting
her election as Vice President of the Board
in 2005 by the Dallas City Council. She
has left her mark on caring for our green
spaces and parks. After writing a grant
for a new children's basketball court at
Elmwood Park, it was approved for $15,000,
the dedication of the new children's basketball
court will be in April.
As
a great mother and spouse, Delia was recognized
and honored as "Mother of the Year"
with the Texas Can! Motherhood Award, on
May 13, 2008. She also has written over
60 positive articles about Oak Cliff for
two years in the Dallas Morning News as
a freelance contributor.
Delia
Jasso has been a lifelong resident of District
1 and the Oak Cliff area. Delia attended
Dallas Public Schools - Leila P. Cowart
Elementary School, L.V. Stockard Middle
School, and attended Sunset High School
but graduated from Skyline High School as
one of its first graduating classes. After
graduation Delia studied and majored in
Journalism and graduated from Southern Methodist
University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Mr.
and Mrs. DeLeon not only reared their children
in Oak Cliff but also made St. Cecilia Catholic
Church their parish where Delia made her
First Holy Communion. In 1989, she married
Juan Jasso and celebrated at the Oak Cliff
Society of Fine Arts, now the Turner House.
Delia's
mother, Josie DeLeon of Hampton Hills, and
sisters, Helen and Irene, continue to reside
in District 1 and are voting residents.
